Limited Access to Prenatal and Delivery Services

Compared to larger urban counties, Gray County has fewer local options for maternal health care. Limited availability of prenatal and postpartum services means families cannot always access care close to home. This creates gaps in support and leaves many families without the consistent resources they need during pregnancy and after delivery.

Families Must Travel for Care

Because specialized maternal health services are not always available in Gray County, many families must travel to other areas for prenatal and delivery care. These trips add financial costs, time, and stress — and for some families, travel challenges may result in delayed or missed appointments, putting both mothers and babies at greater risk.

Local Challenges, Local Solutions

Pampa Community Day Care Center, a designated County Strategist and Level 2 Community Partner Program (CPP) site, will expand its role in helping families apply for Medicaid and CHIP. By providing hands-on assistance with enrollment, the center will make it easier for mothers to get coverage quickly and begin prenatal care without unnecessary delays.

Expand the role of CHWs to provide early screening, warm handoffs, and referral support for families entering care.

Partnerships with Pampa ISD, Region 16 Early Head Start, and other local organizations will be strengthened to reduce reliance on distant services. By coordinating resources closer to home, families will have more consistent access to education, support programs, and referrals — easing the burden of travel and improving maternal health outcomes.

Pampa Daycare, located in Pampa, Texas, is a licensed childcare facility dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children. The center offers programs tailored to various age groups, focusing on early childhood development and learning. With a team of qualified and caring staff, Pampa Daycare emphasizes individualized attention, fostering both social and cognitive growth in a structured setting. The facility is committed to partnering with families to support the holistic development of each child, ensuring they are well-prepared for future educational endeavors

Pampa Regional Medical Center (PRMC), located in Pampa, Texas, is a 25-bed, not-for-profit critical access hospital and a member of the Prime Healthcare Foundation . Serving approximately 65,000 residents in the Texas Panhandle, PRMC offers a comprehensive range of medical services to meet the diverse healthcare needs of its community.

The hospital's services encompass cardiology, radiology, behavioral health, surgical services, therapy, and emergency care . The Radiology and Imaging Department provides diagnostic imaging services, including digital mammography, CT scans, MRI, and ultrasound . PRMC's Emergency Department operates 24/7 as a Level IV Trauma Center and is accredited as a Stroke Ready Center by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) .
