Meet Christine

Christine Garner is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Researcher in the InfantRisk Center, and Assistant Vice President of Research at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo. She completed her doctorate and master’s degrees in maternal and child nutrition at Cornell University, and registered dietitian training at UC San Francisco. She is also a Certified Lactation Counselor. Her clinical experience provides valuable and practical insights for her research.

Her research focuses on maternal and child health during pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, and early childhood – the “first 1000 days” – vital life phases for improving health and well-being of our communities. Cross-disciplinary collaborations across obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry, pharmacology, and public health facilitate addressing a range of research questions. Recent and current projects include studies to understand experiences and decision-making among perinatal individuals and their healthcare providers, interventions to address maternal mental health and food insecurity, and implementation research to understand and address maternal health disparities.
